Container Export Business

Every month, we export Japanese processed foods and household goods to South Korea by container. Moving forward, we plan to strengthen our exports to Southeast Asia and Western markets, delivering Japanese quality to customers in a wider range of regions.

History of the Company

1946
 Sei Kawakami started primarily retailing food products at the current location.
1952
 Kawakami Shoten Co., Ltd. was established, with Yoshinobu Kawakami becoming the president and starting wholesale operations as well.
1955

As the wholesale business expanded throughout the city, transactions with the "Kankan Butai," which distributed seafood from along the San'in Line to sell in Shimonoseki, also became more active.
1960

The area around the current location, being close to Shimonoseki Station, became widely recognized as the "Nagato Market," leading to a significant increase in sales.
1974
 The second daughter, Chiyoko, and her husband, Satoru, joined the management of the business.
1980
 Business with South Korean visitors arriving via the Kanpu Ferry increased.
2008

We began exporting food products to South Korean trading companies.
2021
 We began selling Japanese products through our international e-commerce business.
2024
 Tomoaki Kawakami was appointed as CEO.
